Articles

A number of articles on Hontai Yoshin Ryu or related topics have been written by Guy Buyens:

An introduction on Hontai Yoshin Ryu (koryu.com)
Guy wrote a series of 3 articles on Hontai Yoshin Ryu for koryu.com. First the school is introduced (Part 1), followed by a description of jujutsu in more detail (Part 2), and finally by a reflection on the long and never ending journey (Part 3).
After finishing these 3 articles we realised that an additional article on "iai-jutsu" was useful.
The history of Hontai Yoshin Ryu
The only official source for the history of our school is the site of the sohonbu dojo in Japan (www.hontaiyoshinryu.com ). Nevertheless our own notes have been written down in the illustrated History of Hontai Yoshin Ryu (the lineage of the school is also included). The tekst has been updated in August 2010.
A Dictionary/Glossary related to Hontai Yoshin Ryu
In this glossary, an explanation of most entries has been provided. We hope this glossary (dictionary) turned out to be more than yet another alphabetic list of words commonly used in BUDO. Although not yet finished, we decided to already give access to the PDF and we will update the document on a regular basis.
A translation (and explanation) of the names of the techniques in the different KATA of the school (the official curriculum as taught by INOUE Kyoichi Munenori, the 19th generation SOKE) is also available but this document is intended for students of Hontai Yoshin Ryu only.
An article on Ono Ha Itto-ryu
In August 2011, Guy participated in an Ono Ha Itto-ryu seminar with Sasamori Takemi (17th Soke) in San Diego. Here some explanations on Ono Ha Itto-ryu.

An article on the 30th anniversary and 32nd event of the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai for koryu.com
Hontai Yoshin-ryu is a member of the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai (belonging to the Nihon Budokan), a prestigious classical martial arts organization. In 2009 the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai celebrated its 30th anniversary.
In February 2009, the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai also held its 32nd event in Tokyo. Since we participated in this event, we updated our notes on the 40 participating schools and presented them in a series of 4 parts, published on koryu.com.
Shito Ryu Karate in a historical context
All senior members of the Belgian Branch had a solid background in Karate (Shito-Ryu) before starting their journey in Hontai Yoshin Ryu. Here an article on the history of Karate with special emphasis on Shito-ryu.

Our friend Stephen Fabian (responsible for the US Branch of Hontai Yoshin Ryu) also wrote several articles:
Bojutsu: The Staff and Stick Arts of Hontai Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu
Jujutsu: A preliminary analysis of methodology
